Pony for foster

Another superb pony has become available for foster as, sadly, last fosterer outgrew him.   Wizard is 11 years old, 13.2hh grey New Forest gelding.  Forward going, but safe.  Loves jumping and hacking out.  Would be excellent for Pony Club.  A real fun pony for the experienced rider.  Please call Sue Allery on 01268 584603 or email us at administrator@ehpps.org.uk if you are interested in possibly fostering Wiz.

We had a real breakthrough today with Erin (one of the three Amigos) - Groom Helen Hopkins actually managed to get a headcollar on her!  Erin was fine, although Helen had to go slowly slowly so as not to frighten her.  Our full time staff work with the three youngsters every day.  We successfully separated them a couple of weeks back, and have put them in adjoining field shelters so they can still see each other, but we are doing the separation process very gradually.  Chestnut colt Riley was the first of the three to come around to being touched but he was still having none of it today with a headcollar.  Grace is the scaredy cat of the three and by far the most hesitant.  They are all on slightly different behavioural programmes, each tailored to their individual characters and requirements.  We are absolutely confident that eventually they will be just as laid back as all our other horses and ponies.  Photos show all three with respective grooms, Laura Jardine, Sarah Mills and Helen Hopkins working with them.

Erin was taken ill during our Fun Dog Show last Sunday (18 September). After the vet came out to see her, it was decided that she was to be admitted to our vets that day as she wasn't responding to treatment. Erin had a scan on Tuesday morning which revealed a huge growth in her small colon (the size of a small football). The growth may have been growing since Erin's birth as there were a lot of vessels attached supplying blood to it. On Thursday Erin was diagnosed as having a tumour in her stomach. Despite medication at vets, Erin was in a lot of discomfort and things would only get worse. We took the decision on Thursday to have her peaceably put to sleep to prevent further suffering.

Erin was only with us a relatively short time, along with her constant companions, Grace and Riley, but she made a huge impact on our hearts. RIP Erin.
