We have kindly been donated a signed West Ham shirt which we are auctioning to raise vital funds URL: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SEASON-2011-12-WEST-HAM-UNITED-SIGNED-AUTOGRAPHED-FOOTBALL-SHIRT-NEW-/120836688097#ht_854wt_1270

PLEASE HELP

We do not have any winter grazing at the Sanctuary which is not too much of a problem usually - but as we are so overstocked at the moment, it has been a cause of great worry to us.  Basildon Council have immediately come to the rescue in the form of lots of additional winter grazing for us for those of our horses and ponies who fair well living out.  However ...... we need to beg, steal (not literally!) or borrow as much electric fencing and posts for the fencing to enable us to start moving some of our horses across in order that they can graze safely.  The grass is abundant and there is a lot of natural shelter, but we do need to section off the boundaries alongside Pitsea Creek.

CAN YOU HELP US BY DONATING ELECTRIC FENCING/POSTS ETC TO US?

Please contact Sue Allery at administrator@ehpps.org.uk or Laura Jardine on 07515 562854  - THANKING YOU IN ANTICIPATION.

Erin

One of our three "Amigos" Erin (of Grace, Erina nd Riley) had a colic attack while the Dog Show was going on yesterday.  We called one of our vets immediately and Erin was given the necessary treatment.  She seemed to stabilise so the vet left some time later.  Half an hour on, Erin collapsed again so Chloe Cummings, one of the lovely vets from Paton and Lee, rushed back over to check Erin out again.  In the end, it was decided that she would be better hospitalised so head groom, Laura Jardine, quickly loaded Erin up and tranported her to Paton ad Lee's veterinary hospital.  Further tests revealed that Erin had an impaction in her small colon, so the vets tubed her.

Erin had a comfortable night, but had another attack this morning.  She is going to be scanned in the morning so that the vets can see exactly what is going on.  Blood tests ruled out any liver damage - thank God.  All being well, our Erin will be home soon, but for the moment she is better off in the safe hands of our vets until we know exactly what caused Erin's colic.

Given that it took some four and a half months to even get a headcollar on this nervous filly, she has astounded us all as to how well she took to be handled by us and the veterinary team in order to treat her colic.  She has gone through blood tests and rectal examinations without a murmur.   We think, without doubt, that we have eventually won Erin's trust at last.  The vets tell us she is being a model patient too.  We'll keep you updated on our girl's progress.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH TO ZARA HIPSEY - THE YOUNG LADY WHO INITIALLY NOTICED THAT ERIN WAS BEHAVING STRANGELY AND FOR ALERTING US SO QUICKLY.  ERIN ALSO SENDS HER SPECIAL THANKS TO ZARA. XX

Scruffs Fun Dog Show

18 September 2011

The standard, as ever at our Fun Dog Shows, was as high as ever.  The day raised a grand total of £1,326.37. For our horses and ponies.  EHPPS Trustee Suzanne Heron put her heart and soul into organising this show, which was relaxed and enjoyable throughout.  All the doggies did their owners proud.  We must admit we nearly had heart failure a week before the event, when UK Power Networks (the local electricity supplier) informed us that they were carrying out extensive works that very day!  The company fully understood our plight, but there was little they could do as major railway repairs had been planned, hence the works.  They sent a representative straight down to us to assess what we needed for the day and set us up with a generator so that the show could go on.   Our lovely Judges, Jodi and Linda Skelton of Rescued Animal Welfare, certainly had a task on their hands picking winners from all the beautiful pooches that came along on the day.  Official photographer for the show was Kevin Lawrence.  Our grateful thanks to All Four Paws for running the Agility Classes on the day.   Last, but certainly not least, thanks to the following people for sponsoring the show:   Cockerpoodledoos of Thundersley;  Ashby’s Top Dogs Limited of Hullbridge; Benfleet Working Trials Society of Hockley, Billericay Dog Training School of Billericay; Dewar Associates of Chelmsford; T and J Feeds of Benfleet; Pets at Home of Pitsea; Tranquility Beauty and Spa at Club Kingswood, Elaine Roberts; Kathryn Pettitt; Jodi Skelton; Jenifer Heron; Doggy Delights of Romford; Terri West of Barking Mad; Feedmark; Purina; Burns; Kay Rush and Trans-Safe of Billericay.

DOG SHOW

The Dog Show went tremendously well today and we shall be publishing a report on the show in the next day or so. However, there is never a dull moment at EHPPS - Erin got cast and then got an attack of spasdomic colic. Chloe Cummings, one of Paton and Lee's lovely vets arrived and medicated Erin. Chloe hung around for a while to see how Erin was doing, and all seemed to be going well. About half an hour later after Chloe had left, Erin went down again and was behaving very erractically. Chloe immediately came back and spent time examining Erin. To be on the safe side, Erin was admitted to Paton and Lee's veterinary hospital unit this evening where she will be strictly monitored. Fingers crossed our lovely girl will be fine.

AN EVENING WITH THE MEDIUMS

Mediums Toni Jopson and  Mick Humphreys very kindly gave their time  on the evening of 16 September 2011 to help raise these much needed funds for our Charity.  The event raised £1,092. EHPPS Members Representative, Ann Pannell, organised the event and did a fantastic job—especially so as it was her very first attempt at doing anything like this!  Ann also managed to get loads of brilliant raffle prizes donated for the night.

Our grateful thanks to the following for donation of raffle prizes on the night:  Prince of Wales PH; Eden Hair at Felmores; Boots at Basildon; Pets at Home of Pitsea; Jeanette Florists of Pitsea; World of Flowers of Pitsea; Fish N’ Chick’n; Nisa of Whitmore Way, Studio 360 Gym of Billericay; Serendipity Nursery at Vange; Debenhams of Lakeside; and from Barleylands—Glass from the Past; One Stop Pamper Shop; Just For You; Balloon Décor; Pitter Patter; Hazel Pottery Barn and Essex Embroidery.

Amber

Amber is available for foster, but she is not a novice ride and loves jumping, hacking etc.  She had a lovely home (yet again!) in the North of the County but developed an allergy which caused her to keep coughing and wheezing.  It doesn't seem to affect her down our part of the County!    Smashing pony for an experienced little jockey.  Please give Sue Allery a call on 01268 584603 or email at administrator@ehpps.org.uk if you are interested in possibly fostering Amber.
