SUE ALLERY (Chairman of Trustees and Sanctuary Manager)
Sue has been involved with EHPPS for over 20 years now, having been a Trustee for 19 years and Sanctuary Manager since April 2003.   Previously, most of her working life was spent in London law firms.  Sue has three ponies, Nell, a 22 year old Palomino Welsh Section A mare, 4 year old Shetland, Rory, who starred on TV and was quite a little superstar when he was a foal and 15 year old Shetland, Bobby who she fosters from EHPPS.  Then there are Sue's two dogs - four year old black rescue Greyhound bitch, Kizzy, and 7 year old black Labrador dog, Alfie.  An avid animal lover (or just sheer barmy) Sue also has 17 rescue cats and a hedgehog named Leroy who comes into the house every night promptly on the dot of 10pm for a feed.  He then scuttles off back into the garden when he's finished.  There is a long suffering  husband somewhere on the list too!

TREENA KING (Trustee and Secretary)
Treena has been a volunteer with EHPPS for 8 years, being a familiar face to visitors at our Membership Desk and Information Centre on Sunday afternoons.  She has worked in administration for over 20 years and just recently taken on the role of Secretary at EHPPS.    Treena is married and has a retired greyhound bitch called Pammy.  As you can see, some of our Trustees are very fond of Greyhounds!

JOANNE HILL (Trustee and Fostering Officer)
Jo has always loved animals and has been a fostering officer with EHPPS for a number of years.  She began riding at the age of 9 and has owned and fostered a number of equines, ranging from native ponies to Anglo-Arabs.  Jo currently has a piebald cob who has done a bit of dressage in the past but would really like to be a racehorse!  Jo and her husband also have 2 retired greyhounds.

RACHAEL STEEL (Trustee)

Rachael became involved with EHPPS in the summer of 2010 after visiting one afternoon. She wanted to help after hearing about the Sanctuary and the endless work that goes into running it and looking after the horses and ponies. Rachael came on board as a Trustee in October 2010. Rachael works as a solicitor and finds spending time helping the Sanctuary a great stress buster! She has a Jack Russell called Monty and two cats called Dusty and Zorro, one of which only has three legs! She is hoping to foster one of our horses in the near future. Rachael is a fond lover of the colour pink and in her spare time, she enjoys modelling for our online gift shop (as you can see!) She also enjoys raising money for EHPPS by participating in activities such as the Southend half marathon.

JANICE WILLIS (Trustee and Treasurer)

Jan is our Treasurer.  She used to foster one of the EHPPS horses but had to give up riding due to a shoulder injury. Having to retire from riding was really tough, but with a bit more time on her hands she got stuck in helping out with the Charity.  Jan utilises her qualified accounting skills (ACCA) to ensure all the accounts are looked after and keeps a keen eye on how close we are to running out of cash (which is more or less weekly!).  Jan has two cats called Ronnie and Reggie and two boxer dogs called Misty and Leo.

LESLEY TAYLOR Trustee/Field Officer

Lesley first visited EHPPS in the summer of 2008 and a few weeks later fostered Gwyneth in August.  They had a long journey of getting to know each other and pushing each others boundaries.  Towards the end of 2009 they entered their first competition and “had a go at dressage.”  In 2010 they started going out to local shows in Basildon and Thurrock - winning the occasional rosette or two.  This year they are hoping to compete at more shows, once Gwynnie has been nurtured back from injury.  As well as Gwyneth, Lesley has 5 cats at home, a husband and 9-year son – neither of who share her passion of horses.  Lesley has recently come on board as Members Representative for EHPPS and is looking forward to organising the odd fund-raising event for the Sanctuary too as well as the odd afternoon mucking in, or rather mucking out the EHPPS residents.

Away from the yard, Lesley enjoys football and enjoys her job as Office Manager for a Rochford based water cooler company.

LAURA JARDINE (Head Groom and Field Officer)
Laura is our Head Groom and, alongside Sue Allery, is one of our main Field Officers.  Laura used to work in IT Training but an opportunity came up to manage a riding and excursion centre in Spain which Laura felt was an opportunity which was too good to miss.  She spent some years working abroad and returned to the UK at the beginning of 2009.  She came on board at EHPPS shortly thereafter.  Laura brought with her a rescue Spanish Hunting dog called DiDi along with Guppy, a handsome, totally white, cat.  Laura also fosters 6 year, 16hh, old Warmblood mare, Tennessee Rose.  Laura can consume more chocolate in one sitting than anyone else we've ever come across

SUZANNE HERON (Trustee and Fostering Officer)

Suzanne came to EHPPS in January 2009 looking for a companion ‘pony’ for her beloved other horse, Monty, who she shares with her sister.  She didn’t, however, leave with a pony, but instead fell in love with Tyson - one of the biggest horses at the Sanctuary at the time.  Monty and Tyson are now the best of friends and insist of their daily grooming sessions after breakfast.  Suzanne has been riding for nearly 25 years, and had Monty for almost 18 of those years.  Her love of animals started at an early age and she dreams of winning the lottery so that she can foster lots of other horses - especially Henry!  Suzanne is a Project Manager for the NHS, helping families and children have a healthier lifestyle.  She also runs a community cafe in Maldon, and has raised over £500 for EHPPS so far by holding raffles, book fairs and cake sales.  Oh, and she also makes wedding cakes!  Suzanne joined our committee in August 2010.

HELEN HOPKINS (Groom)

Full time groom, Helen Hopkins, has been working with horses since she left school.  Helen joined our full time team in late July 2011.  She has four dogs and a horse of her own to care for too.  Helen tells us that her hobbies are …. horses, horses and yet more horses – as there is little time for anything else in her life.   One of Helen’s tasks will be assessing horse’s riding abilities before they are placed in foster homes.  With the amount of horses and ponies we have at the moment, she is going to be kept very busy over the next few months.

SARAH MILLS (Groom)

Sarah Mills joined our full time staff back in June 2011, having been a steadfast volunteer since January 2011 – so at least she had an idea of what she was letting herself in for!  Yet another animal lover – Sarah has 2 dogs, six rabbits, ten geckos, a boa constrictor (yes, we did say a boa constrictor) and a rat snake.  Oh yes … and two children and a husband.  When asked what was the favourite part of her job was, Sarah replied …. horses!  (Good job she works here then eh?)  As well as all the usual stable duties that are part of her day to day job, Sarah will be getting quite heavily involved in helping us sort out some of the behavioural issues that some of new intakes have.  With her calm approach to life generally, we feel this area is something Sarah will excel at.

ANN PANNELL

Ann Pannell has been a volunteer with EHPPS for some years now; as well her daughter Sarah who is a voluntary weekend stable groom.  Ann makes sure all the family join in as husband, Julian, has done so many repair and building jobs around the yard.

Ann is one of our Members’ Representatives, and also on our Fund Raising Team.  Ann is responsible for organising our psychic nights, which are always a huge success.

STACEY LANE

When Stacey first left school she worked at a riding school and then a livery yard.  Stacey also used to enjoy competing in local dressage and showjumping.  However, after a couple of accidents she gave up riding for a number of years. Stacey then decided to start riding lessons again two years ago but tells us she missed the hands on side of it.  She started volunteering at EHPPS in January 2010 and looks forward to helping out with the horses every weekend and any spare time she gets.   Stacey says she has lots of favourites, but EHPPS Vulcan and Noel are top of her list!    Stacey works in insurance during the week and finds volunteering at the Sanctuary a good way of relaxing.  As well as being one of our Members' Representatives, Stacey is also on the EHPPS fundraising team.  Together with fellow fundraiser, Kay Rush, Stacey organised her first curry night back in November 2011.   She eventually hopes to foster one of the EHPPS horses in the near future.
