Essex Horse & Pony Protection Society became a registered charity in 1987, having moved onto the Pitsea Hall Lane site in 1986. Over the years, we have rescused, rehabilitated, rehomed and assisted thousands of horses, ponies and donkeys. We operate a 24 hour emergency call out service, 365 days of the year, and our Field Officers are on hand to help any horse or pony in distress or danger. The majority of horses you meet at the Sanctuary are the victims of cruelty, abandonment and/or neglect. The rehabiliation and care of the animals we admit to the sanctuary require a tremendous amount of time and money spending on them, which is why we constantly appeal for donations and other types of funding. We have hundreds of horses and ponies on foster around the Country, all of whom are regularly checked upon by our dedicated team of Fostering Officers. We welcome visitors to our Sanctuary every Sunday and Wednesday afternoon from the first Sunday in April through to the end of December between 1pm and 4pm, as well as Bank Holiday Mondays. We offer a full range of adoption and membership options
