~~  MEET US  ~~

WE THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE ehpps TEAM -  SO HERE GOES .....

SUE ALLERY (Chairman of Trustees and Sanctuary Manager)
Sue has been involved with EHPPS for over 20 years now, having been a Trustee for 19 years and Sanctuary Manager since April 2003.   Previously, most of her working life was spent in London law firms.  Sue has three ponies, Nell, a 22 year old Palomino Welsh Section A mare, 4 year old Shetland, Rory, who starred on TV and was quite a little superstar when he was a foal and 15 year old Shetland, Bobby who she fosters from EHPPS.  Then there are Sue's two dogs - four year old black rescue Greyhound bitch, Kizzy, and 7 year old black Labrador dog, Alfie.  An avid animal lover (or just sheer barmy) Sue also has 18 rescue cats and a hedgehog named Leroy who comes into the house every night promptly on the dot of 10pm for a feed.  He then scuttles off back into the garden when he's finished.  There is a long suffering  husband somewhere on the list too!

 ANGELA STRANKS (Trustee - Secretary)
Angie has been married to her husband for 10 years and they have two daughters who are five and eight.   Angie has been around horses all her life.

Angie used to run a a riding school, and was a professional showjumper until an injury stopped that.  Although she is a qualified Pre-school teacher, Angie decided to return to her passion of horses and animals and is currently studying a level three diploma in animal welfare and husbandry.  Angie is a member of the International Society of Animal Professionals.

 TREENA KING (Trustee - Treasurer)
Treena has been a volunteer with EHPPS for 8 years, being a familiar face to visitors at our Membership Desk and Information Centre on Sunday afternoons.  She has worked in administration for over 20 years and just recently taken on the role of Treasurer at EHPPS.    Treena is married and has a retired greyhound bitch called Pammy.  As you can see, some of our Trustees are very fond of Greyhounds!  (Treena is cuddling Kizzy here - Sue's Grey).

JOANNE HILL (Trustee and Fostering Officer)
Jo has always loved animals and has been a fostering officer with EHPPS for a number of years.  She began riding at the age of 9 and has owned and fostered a number of equines, ranging from native ponies to Anglo-Arabs.  Jo currently has a piebald cob who has done a bit of dressage in the past but would really like to be a racehorse!  Jo and her husband also have 2 retired greyhounds.

WENDY RITHERDON (Trustee and Fostering Officer)
Wendy became a fostering officer after regaining her confidence on the lovely Homer who is fostered from EHPPS by a good friend of hers. Wendy's love of horses and ponies started 25 years ago when she had to groom for her asthmatic daughter. Wendy currently contents herself with regular lessons and overseeing the well being of a retired TB ex racer, for a friend who lives abroad.  Wendy's home life is dominated by a Parson Russell and just one cat (at the moment), and she is passionate about the well being of all animals.

 DAWN LOFTHOUSE (Members’ Representative)
Dawn has been with  EHPPS as a volunteer and committee member  for over 20 years.  Amongst her menagerie of animals are Katie a 14hh Welsh Cob on foster from EHPPS, 2 cats, 2 guinea  pigs and 9 aviary birds which takes up most of her time She married her partner of 10 years in September 2009 and is lucky that her husband enjoys looking after Katie as he has to muck her out on Sundays while Dawn is helping to muck out the EHPPS horses and ponies.  She works as a  Helpdesk Administrator and says that working at the Sanctuary on Sundays is her way of un-winding and even through it is hard work, she enjoys every minute of it.

LAURA JARDINE (Head Groom and Field Officer)
Laura is our Head Groom and, alongside Sue Allery, is one of our main Field Officers.  Laura used to work in IT Training but an opportunity came up to manage a riding and excursion centre in Spain which Laura felt was an opportunity which was too good to miss.  She spent some years working abroad and returned to the UK at the beginning of 2009.  She came on board at EHPPS shortly thereafter.  Laura brought with her a rescue Spanish Hunting dog called DiDi along with Guppy, a handsome, totally white, cat.  Laura also fosters 6 year, 16hh, old Warmblood mare, Tennessee Rose.  Laura can consume more chocolate in one sitting than anyone else we've ever come across

CHERYL BRASSETT (Groom and Fostering Officer)
Cheryl has worked for EHPPS as a stable groom for many years, having stayed on with us once she had finished her work experience (NVQ) with us.  Cheryl had a break from EHPPS for just over a year and worked at a riding school and livery yard which she thoroughly enjoyed.  However, she tells us she really missed the welfare side of things and soon rejoined the team here.  Cheryl has fostered EHPPS' Danny - a 12 year old Black Welsh X Cob gelding, for just over 8 years now.  She is also currently undergoing training to become a Field Officer - along with her stable duties of course.  Without doubt, Cheryl is the noisiest member of staff on the yard and frequently seranades us all (oh, if ONLY the horses could put their hooves over their
ears .....!)

MICHAEL PUGH (Groom and Committee Member)
Mike first came to work for EHPPS back in 2004, leaving four years later to work out of the County for a couple of years at a stud farm.  He rejoined us in May 2010 - and we were pleased to welcome our "Spikey" back with open arms.   Mike undertakes a lot of backing and schooling for us,  being an excellent horseman as well as being exceptional at gaining a horse's trust  -  imperative in our line of business. When he isn't busy training our horses ready for their riding careers, Mike is usually found doing something else "horsey" - bit of a one track minded lad this one! Mike joined our Committee in August 2010 as he wanted to get more involved with the running of our Charity as well as looking after our resident horses and ponies.

SUZANNE HERON (Fostering Officer and Committee Member)
Suzanne came to EHPPS in January 2009 looking for a companion 'pony' for her beloved other horse, Monty, who she shares with her sister. She didn't, however, leave with a pony, but instead fell in love with Tyson - one of the biggest horses at the Sanctuary at the time.   Monty and Tyson are now the best of friends and insist of their daily grooming sessions after breakfast.   Suzanne has been riding for nearly 25 years, and had Monty for almost 18 of those years. Her love of animals started at an early age and she dreams of winning the lottery so that she can foster lots of other horses - especially Henry!   Suzanne is a Project Manager for the NHS, helping families and children have a healthier lifestyle. She also runs a community cafe in Maldon, and has raised over £500 for EHPPS so far by holding raffles, book fairs and cake sales. Oh, and she also makes wedding cakes.   Suzanne joined our Committee also in August 2010.

 TRACY WELLS (Fostering Officer)

Tracy lives in Corringham and is a big pet owner.   The family have six horses, seven working dogs, two cats and one guinea pig.   As well as being an EHPPS Fostering Officer, Tracy is also a dog trainer handler.   She enjoys kick boxing and swimming but, more importantly, her children and grand daughter.   Two of Tracy’s horses are fostered from EHPPS - Katy and Indie.

NORMA DAVENPORT (Fostering Officer)
Norma has been involved with EHPPS since April 2006 and been a Fostering Officer since the beginning of 2007.  She took voluntary redundancy at the beginning of 2009 to spend as much time as possinble with my pony, Beppe.  Beppe was backed by Edie Neill some 18 months ago which means Beppe and Norma get to spend lots of time schooling and out hacking.  They especially like going out exploring new places in their trailer.

SARAH BIBBY (Fostering Officer)
Sarah started riding at a young age, and had her own horses until she got married and had children.   She returned to riding when her children started having  lessons. Due to illness last year, she had to put a stop to it, and decided to come along to the Sanctuary in August 2009  to help out instead.  Having now made a full recovery, Sarah hopes to be back in the saddle soon.

JO FOX (Fostering Officer)
Jo has been a volunteer at the Sanctuary for quite some time now.  We've certainly put her to the test as she even turned up regularly throughout the dreadful winter of 2009/2010 - now THAT is dedication for you.   Jo joined our team of Fostering Officers in early July 2010.

ANNA COATES (Fostering Officer)
Anna has had horses for thirty years and enjoys hacking out on the lovely Homer.  Anna also does a bit of showing.  She is planning to drive Shetland Pony Frosty this year but he is also enjoys taking Anna's friend's little girl out for walks on the lead rein.  Both Homer and Frosty are fostered by Anna from EHPPS.

CAROL CHAPMAN (Welfare Scout)
Carol has had horses since the tender age of 11.  She passed her Horse Masters qualification some years ago with an aim of working with horses. Carol has worked at a couple of livery yards over the years then the family came along and it went out the window.   Now her children are older she decided to get back into horses.  Her boyfriend brought her horse Monty for her 40th birthday.  She is lucky enough to be able to keep him at home.  Carol also has a very cheeky and always hungry Welsh Section A called Toffee which is her daughters pony.   Carol has always had a love of animals and currently has two very cute Jack Russells called Jazzy and Enzo along with two very fat guinea pigs. We are delighted to welcome Carol to our hard working and dedicated team.

LUCY HAMMOND (Welfare Scout)
Lucy joined the team as a Welfare Scout in August 2010.  She has just starting to breed Welsh Section D’s.  Lucy has spent most of her working life doing office work in London. which she gave up once she had her daughter Darcy, who is now six years old.  Welcome on board Lucy!

DOROTHY KING (Fund Raising)
Dorothy has two grown up sons and is mother in law to Treena, EHPPS' Treasurer, whose daily job is as a Help Desk Administrator.  Dorothy admits to being rather nervous of horses and has never even sat on one yet.....   However she loves their gentle nature and likes to help raise much needed funds for EHPPS by selling things on eBay for them, which she has been doing for a very long time now..  When not sitting at the computer she enjoys long walks, taking Treena's greyhound Pammy along with her friends and their dogs.

On behalf of the horses and ponies, we would like to take this opportunity of expressing our eternal thanks and gratitude to all of our volunteers - being Stable Hands, Shop and Tea Room Helpers, Fund Raisers, Site Workers  -  without whom our work would not be possible

We welcome visitors to the Sanctuary every Sunday Afternoon from April through to December and on Bank Holiday Mondays from 1pm - 4pm
