Horses and Ponies Currently Seeking Foster Homes

If you are interested in being considered as a potential fosterer for any of the horses and ponies
listed below, please download, complete and submit a Fostering Application Form
to Sue Allery at EHPPS, Pitsea Hall Lane, Basildon, Essex SS16 4UH in the first instance.

3 year old Chestnut Welsh Section D Gelding – 14.3hh

Denied veterinary treatment by his ex-owner when he sustained an injury, this loving and forgiving lad is now in our ownership.  Loving and inquisitive nature.  Ready for some ground work now and for backing in 2010.  This pony was used to pull a trap from an early age so is bombproof on the roads.  We are looking for an experienced home for this boy.

9 year old Skewbald Welsh Cob Gelding – 15.3hh

Lovely, friendly lad who would make an excellent companion.  Good to handle.  Unfortunately he has severe stringhalt so cannot be ridden.  No health problems otherwise but simply a little unsteady on his back legs.  Loves living out – hates being stabled.  Would suit a family home where he could “come and go” from field to shelter as he pleased.

15 year old Grey Welsh Section A Gelding – 11.2hh

A loving pony who is a bit of an escape artist!  He suffers from laminitis, so is looking for a very special home that is experienced enough to care for him and has excellent fencing!  He has so much character and love to give.  Would make a great companion pony.

13 year old Bay Warmblood Mare – 14.3hh

Has done a lot of X-Country, dressage as well as happy hacking.  Not a novice ride.  On the flat, she used to outrun her ex-fosterer’s Thoroughbred!

12 year old Dark Bay Cob – 15hh

What a character this boy is!  Due to a tendon injury in the past, he is not rideable.  He would love the chance of becoming part of a family where he could be a companion horse.  Cheeky, loving temperament.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

* IT IS A LEGAL REQUIREMENT THAT FOSTERING APPLICANTS ARE OVER 18 YEARS OF AGE.

* ALL FOSTERERS ARE REQUIRED TO BECOME FULLY PAID-UP MEMBERS OF THE SOCIETY FOR THE DURATION OF THEIR FOSTERING TERM.

* A DONATION WILL BE REQUESTED FROM SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS TO ENABLE THE SOCIETY TO CONTINUE TO REHABILITATE AND RE-HOME HORSES IN ITS CARE.  A MINIMUM DONATION OF £75 WILL BE REQUIRED FOR A COMPANION, PLUS A YEAR’S MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTION.  A DONATION UP TO A MAXIMUM OF £800 WILL BE REQUIRED FOR A RIDEABLE HORSE.  DONATIONS ARE NOT REFUNDABLE.

* NOTE TACK AND RUGS ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH FOSTERED HORSES.

* THIS APPLICATION DOES NOT IN ANY WAY CONSTITUTE A GUARANTEE THAT THE APPLICANT WILL BE OFFERED A HORSE/PONY BY THE ESSEX HORSE & PONY PROTECTION SOCIETY FOR FOSTERING PURPOSES.

Reasons we might turn down a Fostering Application are:

Lack of turnout

Applicant has insufficient knowledge/experience to look after the type of horse they have requested (e.g. we often get applications for Shetlands from people who do not know how to recognise or treat laminitis – a disease which is always a risk for Shetlands)

Applicant has other horses which appear to be suffering neglect

We will not re-home a horse to a yard which we know is currently under investigation in animal cruelty/neglect case.

We will not re-home a horse to a place where it will have no other equine company.

We welcome visitors to the Sanctuary every Sunday Afternoon from April through to December and on Bank Holiday Mondays from 1pm - 4pm
